HALTBARKEIT IST DER NEUE STANDARD

DURABILITY IS THE NEW STANDARD

Have you already thought about how the relationship to your clothes has changed over the past year? The variety of clothes in everyday life has probably shrunk significantly. Practical parts have replaced uncomfortable fabrics and fits. They are functional, maybe provoke a smile on the screen in the home office or add personality Expression. Less is more and more is worn more often.

Working from home changed outfits around the world. More than 50 percent of consumers intend to change their fashion consumption in the long term; buy less and make their clothes last longer. Conscious consumption is so trendy that seasonal trends are becoming increasingly irrelevant.

Sustainability comes from longevity

The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global CO2 emissions, 20% of wastewater and 98 million tons of non-renewable resources every year. Considering the ever-increasing carbon footprint, these trends are great news!

When an outfit lasts longer, it reduces the need to buy replacements. This avoids valuable resources for production, delivery, disposal and even laundry.

When we talk about durability, it's not just the quality of the fabric or its ability to withstand the elements - although these qualities are important. Grandma's clothes may still work, but that doesn't mean we'd like to wear them.

The best way to influence the longevity of a garment is at the design stage. So what are the qualities that are important when designing a garment?

physical durability

This means: materials that are robust, wear-resistant and ideally do not cause any microplastics. It also means enabling a repair. With ample seam allowance, clear care instructions, and extra buttons or thread, clothes can be altered and repaired when those dreaded tears, stains, and even a few unexpected pounds appear.

Timeless style

A garment can only stand the test of time when it successfully traverses the ever-evolving, sometimes fickle, nature of fashion. Today's It trend can be tomorrow's fashion faux pas. Instead, the gold standard is timelessness. Timeless design embodies quality, craftsmanship and a little luck. For me personally this means: Clean lines, deliberate color palettes and pieces that can be easily combined with others.

Emotional Consistency

When we form an emotional attachment to the objects around us, we tend to hold on to them longer. Like a cherished family heirloom or a favorite sweater that "lived on" a memorable event. The emotional durability of our everyday objects can be the key to the circular economy. This is especially true for clothing.

Emotional consistency is an elusive goal. Meaning often comes from the unexpected or personal. A property that is difficult for a clothing manufacturer to ensure.

That is why all limo products are manufactured after the order has been received. Each customer receives a unique piece sewn especially for them.
